Home gardening tips for 6 year olds

First graders (and above) will enjoy this hands on experience. The Virginia Agriculture Department is sponsoring this "Plant a tree" session. Each child (no matter how big they are) will be given a Virginia Pine that they can plant in a peat pot and take home with them. When it is 12 inches tall they can then transfer it to a good location in their yard. Instructions on how to care for the tree and the benefits of having one in your yard will be discussed. Not only does it help keep our planet green, but it is a good food source for birds and provides a home to a wide variety of animals.
